Ahoskie has a substantial collection of historic, late 19th and early 20th century commercial, residential and industrial buildings. The historic built environment of Ahoskie is out of proportion to it's current population of 5,039. The region Ahoskie is in has experienced a mostly uniform decline in recent decades along with the declining importance of tobacco and cotton agriculture and processing.

Ahoskie has an interesting collection of warehouse buildings that line the railroad tracks heading out of downtown. These buildings are the remnants of a once thriving tobacco market. The buildings have generally fallen into disuse but many remain in good condition.
