Youngstown Sheet and Tube Works, Campbell, Ohio

Campbell Ohio is just Southeast of Youngstown Ohio. It was formerly called East Youngstown. A large portion of the vast Youngstown Sheet and Tube steel works had been located in Campbell until the company went out of business in 1977. I drove around the area looking for remnants of the Youngstown S&T plant in 2013 and found these foundation walls in Campbell. There are several other remnants of a similar size and extent but nothing much more substantial is left of the steel works that once employed many thousands of people and was for decades the heart of the regional economy. One modern industrial facility has been built on the vast and otherwise empty former grounds of the Youngstown works. It's a large facility but would have been dwarfed by the steel works that once stood on the vacant land around it. South of the Youngstown S&T location along the Mahoning river are the remnants of a once large rail yard that served the plant. The town of Campbell is facing many of the same issues as Youngstown- such as population loss, abandonment and unemployment.
